Our sweet, Arabella, is my “texter,” a beautiful 16 year-old worship singer, high school student & babysitter that does almost all the personalized chalk handwriting I have around our home. You can see her work on my instagram, her instagram and lots of photos in this post. Her mom, Dara is a precious friend that I met at ‘Mothers of Preschoolers’ several years ago. She just lights up a room with her heart and it was truly an honor to be asked to be a part of this party. Our dear mutual friend Lisa, my favorite hostess and baker, lent her guidance to create this beautifully special 16th birthday.
the Invitations & the Venue
These are the pretty invites and the venue is a secret Pittsburgh location that is just stunning in it’s own right. Add the view from the West End Overlook to any event and it is a beauty right off the bat. The clubhouse is available to rent and it includes the facilities AND a rooftop balcony- speechless, serious sunset magic.
This party included one long table of savory meal items such as chicken & waffles, sushi, homemade buffalo Mac & Cheese, tea sandwiches, chips & salsa, fruit, veggies & salad. The menu was put together considering Arabella’s favorites and the likes of the teen friends and others that would be attending. The other long table of this party was all yummy sweet treats including coordinating candy, cake pops, homemade macarons, cookies with Arabellas’s monogram iced on them, and a homemade cake sprinkled in gold leaf including a tier of each- pink lemonade, vanilla almond and dark chocolate. Yum.
the Scheme & Theme
If you have downloaded my freebie on how to “build a buffet” then you know I mention having a consistent “scheme & theme” throughout your celebration for multiplied impact and beauty. For Arabella’s Sweet 16, it was definitely celebrating her 16th birthday, flowers, the city, the sunset, and her family and friends. Arabella loves ‘rose gold’ so we used that color every where and God blessed her with a rose gold sunset to backdrop the whole event including gorgeous photos as you can see.
When you host a celebration of any sort, I recommend saving time ahead of the guests’ arrivals to snap photos in order to record the backdrop you have created for the people to enjoy. I love looking back at past parties, at both the “props” or decor of it and the “people” who celebrated. Here is a look back at my girl’s 70’s for 7 Birthday party.
A group photo is always fun and a great record of the individuals that took time out to be there- especially years from now when you are really looking back at good times. Another option for fun photos is a photo backdrop- we created this one with white lights, rose gold 1-6 balloons and scheme colored ribbons hanging down. You can also provide props for this like rose gold sunglasses, stick on mustaches, and fake flowers.
Arabella’s party had a photo station for instant polaroid photos to be taken and mounted or glued in a book with memories written in. Arabella also used a hashtag for this special event for her friends & family to share on instagram. So you see, lots of photo memories were made at this party!
Arabella gave everyone a sweet rose gold box with treats as they departed…it was such a magical sweet 16 celebration & evening, it was hard to leave.
It really did bring a “village” together with Lisa’s guidance to love on Arabella and her precious mama Dara and pulling off this sweet 16 party. A wise friend knows which friends have which gifts and who to ask for help in certain areas. It was a complete joy for me to merely help add a little “beauty” to this celebration.
